ISOKO Participates in Technical Review of ICGLR Report and RAP on WPS
November 23, 2021- ISOKO Partners for Peace and Gender Equality (ISOKO) was honored to participate alongside gender experts and gender ministers from across the Great Lakes Region of Africa (GLR) in the technical review of the finalisation of the revised International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) Gender Policy and Regional Action Plan on UNSCR 1325, and provide recommendations for the implementation of these documents at the Member States level. The important roundtable took place November 11-13, 2021.
ICGLR created its gender policy in 2017 pursuant to its obligations to promote gender equalityand the WPS Agenda in the GLR. In light of the challenges to implementation presented by the COVID 19 pandemic, and pursuant to the directive of the 2021 generation equality forum to accelerate WPS and gender equality implementation, the ICGLR convened a necessary review and revision of its gender policy.
Gender ministers and experts from 12 member states participated in the roundtable review and made key recommendations. The EU Representative from the Delegation in Burundi was also present and affirmed the EU’s ongoing support of the ICGLR and the implementation of its policy of integrating women in peace and security decision making. On the final day, the draft report with recommendations was presented and overwhelmingly validated.
