ISOKO and SPPDF Launch Burundi Peacemaker’s Network

October 21, 2021– ISOKO Partners for Peace and Gender Equality (ISOKO) is excited to announce the recent launch of the Peacemaker’s Network in Burundi which unites women and men mediators from various institutions and sectors in a coordinated effort to promote the integration of women into all aspects of local peacemaking.

Implemented in partnership with Synergy of Partners for the Promotion of Women’s Rights (SPPDF) and with the support of the African Women’s Development Fund, the new Network accelerates the momentum in advancing women’s participation and will help Burundi to realize its commitments to the implementation of the UNSCRs 1325 and 2250. The Network creates a sustainable model focused on overcoming barriers which inhibit women’s full participation in conflict resolution and negotiation and to promote their ability to lead these processes effectively.

Local leaders and peacemakers have enthusiastically welcomed the new Network. The Governor of Rumonge’s advisor NICIZANYE Anne Marie thanked the project partners for the initiative “because it falls within the government’s program to advance the rights of women and maintain peace and security.” One member of the Network also endorsed the cross-gender, multi-sector approach because it “allows us to work together with all stakeholders in the maintenance of peace at the local level by pursuing the same objective.” The Network is set to expand into Mwaro Province in January.
