About MotherCare Action Organization 

Established in 2013, MotherCare Action Organization is a young women-led Sudan National Non-Governmental non-profit organization created to defend marginalized women and children. 

MotherCare Action Organization develops, supports and protects vulnerable families, advocates for non-gender descrimination policies, improves female status and women’s rights, as well as enhances decision-making capacities at all levels. 

In addition, MotherCare Action Organization designs initiatives that strengthen citizen centric approaches and provisions that protect children; implement protective laws, advocate against gender based violence,  promote peace and trust building relationships, develop economic workshops and empowerment, emergency response strengthening communities, land and human right protections,  mobile rural education curriculum, hygiene sanitation (WASH) and promoting human life technical and soft skills education for adults and youth.

Executive summary 

The VISTAS/AECOM under USAID program total in kind $70,000 USD ‘UNI089’.  Livelihood and capacity building supported 30 youths in Greater Nyal’ between the months of 21, January, February, and Mach 2019. The project targeted to support 30 youths with livelihood skills in bread making, food preparation, hygiene and presentation. Additionally they were trained on: basic business set up skills, management skills, leadership skills and conflict resolution mechanisms to avoid incidents of war whenever there are differences between family members or between communities in Greater Nyal of Panyijiar County Unity State). 

Despite numerous challenges, MotherCare Action Organization managed to train 30 participants on livelihood skills namely; Conflict resolution, bakers and entrepreneurship, to the most vulnerable and willing youths in the targeted areas. 

The total households targeted in the county were 30: Nyal payam: 8HHs, Kathieth payam: 8 HHs, Mayom payam: 4 HHs, Kanynhial payam: 2HHs,Kol one: 6 HHs and Kol two payam: 2HHs.In total 26 were females and 4 males. During implementation of the project, poor road infrastructure, and lack of communication network were the main challenges faced.

Operational capacity  

Humanitarian response forms the largest part of our mandate as stipulated in our constitution. MotherCare Action Organization responds appropriately by taking into account all other stakeholders who include partners and authority to deliver our mandate effectively. Our resources will be on standby to respond to any emergencies or needs. 

Do no/less harm: “Do no harm” or minimize the harm relief workers may be doing by being presenting/providing assistance. 

Governing Body and Membership Profile 

Governing board members have many years “experience in emergencies and development fields, with the Governing body of MotherCare Action Organization consisting of six active, highly experienced and qualified rural development professionals. The majority of the board members have experience working with international donor organizations.
