The NGOs Working Group on Women, Youth, Peace and Security (WY4PS) in Africa officially launched on May 16, 2026

Saturday, May 16, 2026, marked the official launch of the NGOs Working Group on Women and Youth for Peace and Security (WY4PS) in Africa, an exciting and important milestone in advancing a shared vision rooted in the principles of United Nations Security Council Resolutions 1325 and 2250. The meeting successfully brought together Leaders of Women and Youth CSOs from the Central, East, West  and Southern African regions to launch a collaborative effort focused on strengthening civil society engagement and operationalizing a coordinated CSO network.

The NGOs Working Group on Women and Youth for Peace and Security (WY4PS) in Africa currently brings together civil society leaders and organizations from 23 countries, strengthening regional collaboration, knowledge sharing, and coordinated action to advance the Women, Youth, Peace and Security agenda across the continent.

Participants engaged in thoughtful dialogue and strategic planning to validate the Working Group’s Scope of Work, review operational structures, and establish a leadership framework that reflects the expertise and commitment of participating organizations. The interactive discussions and polling activities demonstrated strong enthusiasm for collaboration, shared accountability, and thematic alignment across the NGOs Working Group’s pillars.

The launch also highlighted the importance of inclusive leadership and cross-sector partnership through the introduction of the Executive Secretariat members and an open forum for questions, feedback, and discussion.

The collective energy and engagement throughout the session reinforced a strong foundation for future collaboration and strategic development.

As the Working Group moves forward, the identification of thematic co-leads and the invitation for nominations and volunteer engagement mark the beginning of a dynamic, collaborative, and action-oriented phase aimed at strengthening coordinated implementation across the continent.

The official launch  not only validated key deliverables and governance structures, but also established momentum, trust, and a shared commitment to advancing peace, security, and meaningful participation for women and youth across Africa.

We aim at transforming global policies into smart actions that address issues we face in our local communities through coordinated synergies.
